The UK is set to progress with using the full worth of seized Russia's holdings to aid the Ukrainian war effort, Leader Sir Keir Starmer has stated.

In a shared declaration, the heads of state of the United Kingdom, the French Republic, and the Federal Republic of Germany asserted that this unified step would heighten pressure on Russia's leader Vladimir Putin and persuade Moscow to engage in negotiations.

They further noted that the decision would be executed in tight collaboration with the America.

British sanctions have immobilized over £25bn of Russian assets since Moscow began its comprehensive attack against Ukraine in 2022. However, up to this point, money sent to Ukraine using Russia's holdings had exclusively been taken from profits and interest earned on them.

Sir Keir informed President Volodymyr Zelensky that the United Kingdom, the French Republic, and Germany were aligned in their aim to push forward toward utilizing the complete amount of the frozen Moscow's national assets to conclude the conflict.

He added that additional sanctions over the next period would heighten the tension on the Russian government.

This declaration is subsequent to European Union officials gathered in Copenhagen last week to consider utilizing frozen Russian holdings for a €140 billion loan to Ukraine.

Last month, US President Donald Trump called on international partners to seize or employ seized Russian assets, as reported by media sources.

The total of frozen Russia's holdings in the EU is assessed to be nearly €211bn.

Leader Zelensky encourages Britain's Sir Keir Starmer to join the Purl initiative

The Russian government executed large-scale aerial attacks all over Ukraine on Friday, causing power cuts in large parts of Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, and multiple additional areas.

Several persons were killed and at least 20 people were hurt in the assault, authorities in Ukraine reported.

In a message on an online platform after the strike, Zelensky commented that the strategic strike targeted public and utility structures.

"What's needed is not empty words but firm measures - from the US, the European Union, and the Group of Seven - in delivering anti-aircraft weapons and implementing penalties," he wrote.

"Each restrictive measure weakens Russia's war machine," Zelensky wrote, in a different message.

Also on Friday, Zelensky informed media outlets he would press Sir Keir to enter the Purl programme, under which alliance members purchase military equipment from the US to donate to Ukraine.

While commending the UK's strong support for Ukraine, he said it should demonstrate clearly that it would take part in the program, as well as apply more restrictions on Russia.
