Alphabet Plans Investment of $15bn to Build AI Data Hub in the Indian Subcontinent
Google's parent company the Alphabet conglomerate is set to invest $15 billion to establish an AI data hub in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.
The infrastructure, to be established in the coastal city of the city of Visakhapatnam, is going to be a component of the worldwide network of Google of AI centres spread across 12 countries.
"This represents the biggest artificial intelligence center that we are going to be investing in worldwide, apart from the United States," Google Cloud's chief executive announced at an event in the capital city of Delhi this Tuesday, mentioning that the funding will be spread across the coming five years.
This declaration arrives during a period US President Donald Trump has been asking American companies to prioritise investments within the country.
India's Growing Role in AI Computing
The nation has risen as a major hub for AI data centres. India's low data costs and rapidly growing online population have made it a focal point for AI and cloud growth for tech giants.
"The infrastructure will introduce our cutting-edge technology to enterprises and users in the country, accelerating artificial intelligence advancement and promoting progress throughout the nation," said Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai.
Initiative Particulars
An official contract to conclude the venture is scheduled for signing this Tuesday, local government officials announced.
"This represents a significant advancement for our state's technological advancement, technological innovation, and worldwide position," remarked the state's technology minister Minister Nara Lokesh.
The venture will merge AI and cloud systems with renewable energy systems and an expanded fibre-optic network.
Andhra Pradesh's Data Center Vision
The venture forms part of the local administration's strategy to create six gigawatts of computing facility capacity by 2029.
Data centres are tangible infrastructures that contain the networking and computing devices that organizations use to collect, process, store, and distribute data.
These include hosting servers, data storage systems and networking hardware like firewalls and routers, combined with the necessary power and cooling systems to function properly.

In Andhra Pradesh, the state authorities has been offering reduced-cost property and power to attract global investors.
Industry Growth
The country's computing facility market has developed swiftly over the past five years, crossing the 1GW capability milestone in the year 2024 and nearly tripling its 2019 level.
